It reminded me of my illustration where an ink glass spills and the liquid turns into space. I’d like to revisit that theme and create a few other versions. I once started a cover with a similar concept, but it wasn’t executed well in terms of perspective and quality. I need to recreate it with props and then trace the template.
The idea was to use a wooden hand model (artist mannequins) holding a pipette dripping ink onto a piece of paper, transforming the ink into the “Universe” on the paper. Since the cover was for a graphic program, there are bezier curve points – (vector) that are typically connected, representing star constellations. Additionally, there are other artistic tools on the table. I wanted to keep the idea secret for now. But before it gets lost on my hard drive, I wanted to archive it here and revisit it later.
Another idea is to explore the theme of blues and artistic melancholy by depicting a wooden mannequin hand shaking hands with a skeleton (Death). It signifies that as an artist, one is very close to the edge and the threshold to suicide is not far. The handshake symbolizes a pact, a dance with death. This also represents the artistic trap one can fall into when aspiring to be an artist. You could end up as a failed artist and succumb to the blues. However, it could also turn out well. But it’s also a dilemma – art that helps you overcome depression but at the same time leads you into depression, trapping you in a cycle you can’t escape from.
