Another thing I have on my bucket list is to capture short videos that are silent or rather have natural sounds and just capture the atmosphere. As the sound also creates the atmosphere, I bought a microphone especially for this. The problem is that you can hear the noise from the lens.
I was just about to make a short video.
It’s 5 AM. I’m pointing the camera at the streetlight of a vernissage studio, which disturbingly lights up in all different colors. The streets are empty. As I swing the very long zoom lens back and forth, I feel like a creep. The lens is very heavy, and I can’t hold it in my hands. It’s too heavy to handle. The image is totally shaky. You have to use a tripod. Then I swing the lens across the street and see in detail a person walking by who looks a bit suspicious and is loitering around. It’s frightening how well you can observe people from the window.
